Kathy Kawashige, General Manager

Kathy was born in Alabama and spent her first 10 years in California. The big move back to Hawaii happened in 1972 for her family. A graduate of Kaiser High School, she later attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa receiving her degree in Sociology.

Kathy’s career in the food and beverage industry started in 1978 just a block away at Zippy’s. Through the years, Kathy has tried changing careers while still working in the business. Her first attempt was a Licensed Real Estate Appraiser and then as a Chemical Sales Representative. Both jobs left her missing the excitement of the food and beverage industry. And in 2002, she took a leap into management at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hawaii where she worked her way up the ranks from a hostess at Hoku’s (20o3 Hale Aina Award Recipient for Best Restaurant of the Year) to assistant manager responsible for the dinner staff at the Plumeria Beach Cafe.

As a mother of two very active boys, Kathy has become a great juggler of time. When not on the soccer field cheering for her sons or helping them do their homework, you can find her here at Alan Wong’s Restaurant on King Street.
