"Sustainability is making decisions today so that our grandchildren's children can enjoy what we enjoy today, tomorrow" ~ Alan Wong

Alan Wong's Restaurants wishes you a Happy Food Day (October 24). Food Day is a nationwide celebration and a movement for healthy, affordable, and sustainable food, and today, we'd like to thank our
\Adopt-A-Beehive with Alan Wong program donors.

Our program's mission is to raise awareness to the plight of the honey bee, and its importance in global and local sustainability. 80% of the world's food supply is directly and indirectly affected by the honey bee. Today, honey bees face a multitude of threats including the small hive beetles, varroa mites, pesticides, and diseases. Albert Einstein has been quoted to say that if honey bees disappeared from the face of the earth,
we would have seven years to live.

We've partnered with the University of Hawai'i Hilo, who has an established history of dedicated course instruction in beekeeping, to do something about this. Through the Adopt-A-Beehive with Alan Wong program, we aim to raise support for research and development of healthy beehive management practices in Hawai'i and beyond. One of the results of this program is the addition of the Beekeeping Certificate at the University, providing students the opportunity to gain advanced knowledge and skills to manage honey bee colonies. Through education, we can make a difference in how we think about food today.
