You can learn a lot by going back to college. Last night I was invited to participate in the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) Professional Interaction Night (PIN). I was so impressed by the students and their dedication to bettering themselves. All of the students were prepared with insightful and thoughtful questions, and they were all determined to make the most of their time with the professionals.
It was an honor to represent the company, I am thankful that I am fortunate enough to be able to attend different events to meet people and learn new perspectives and approaches. Seeing how prepared the students were really made me reflect on what we as managers are able to do for our staff here. Are we giving them what they need to be prepared as professionals in their field? One of our core values as a company is to create an environment where people can be the best that they can be and where we foster a learning environment. Experiencing how well-thought out last night’s event was for the students, I hope that we can better ourselves as teachers for our staff and bring their learning to the next level.
I was invited for what they thought I could share with the students, but they really gave me more. They asked great questions and really made think. Their professionalism inspired me, and for that I am truly thankful.
