Yesterday was New Hire Orientation day for our new hires, held at the Pineapple Room. I am so proud of Nicole, who conducted the portion today that I used to conduct many years ago. I used to do this six times a year, then four, then three and then two and then now one. It has been in the makings for a long time. You could call it succession planning, sustainably reloading, empowering,  letting go, or growing individuals and the company---------what she was able to do yesterday was awesome. It took a lot of time and energy on her part and a lot of teaching others.  We also flew in Miya from Maui to witness it so that she can begin to do the same for Amasia one day, especially with all new hires.

Within each culture is its own language.  The language needs to be used daily, and someone needs to teach it.  It is no different than teachers in school, or parents at home. I love Nicole's analogies of being a mommy now, and talking of her one year old and husband.  When she came on board she applied for a pantry position at the Pineapple Room.  She didn’t get that job because we saw her resume and intervened.  We hired her to be Leigh's assistant at AWRH.  Many years later, she now does this (what is normally a Human Resources thing) and much more as a Sales and Marketing Manager. It made me happy and smile to see this yesterday. Congratulations Nicole, and Leigh.
