“Moms are truly the best cooks in the world."  They have to shop for the best deal in order to make the house budget work.  They season it constantly to make it taste good because they know the family is eating it.  They figure out how to bring nutrition into the household diet. They always put love into their food because they want the family to enjoy it and be happy.  None of it has to be extravagant or fancy, in fact, most of the times, it’s the simple meals that we ate time and time again that we remember the most.  ---------coming up on Thursday May 23rd,  on PBS at 9pm,  Family Ingredients------I will talk about two dishes,  Tamago Kake Gohan (Egg on hot rice) and Miso Soup.

This picture is of mom making miso soup and being filmed. She is in the show.   Appropriately,  this is Mother's Day, Happy Mother's Day to all the mommies out there. Last night at the King St restaurant,  there was a set menu made by four girls, I called it the 'four girls dinner,' they wanted to make the menu dish by dish as a tribute to their moms.  Appropriately, Miya made an amuse called “oyako donburi’ which traditionally means mother and child.   Its usually chicken and egg on hot rice but she twisted it with salmon and ikura.

My mom still cooks better than I do.  I am still learning.  One day maybe……
